The answer is that thickness alone doesn&#8217;t solve wetting. Aluminum has a low surface tension and an aggressive oxide-breaking behavior at casting temperatures (usually 680\u00b0C to 750\u00b0C for most alloys), so it will creep into microscopic pores of an untreated ceramic surface and mechanically lock in as it solidifies. Once that happens, you get buildup, cleaning downtime, and eventually surface degradation that lets heat escape faster than it should.<\/p>\n<p>A transition plate solves this with a layered approach: a low-density insulating core (to slow heat transfer) combined with a dense, chemically inert, non-wetting face layer (to stop metal adhesion). Many ceramic fiber products carry a free silica warning under OSHA and REACH guidelines, and foundries in California, the EU, and increasingly parts of Southeast Asia are tightening documentation requirements around it.
